Hail to the Chief!

It’s time to introduce everyone to our new board President, Cullen Kavanagh! Cullen is new to the board as of the 2021 election and took up the mantle of President. When asked about what his new position entailed he had this to say:

As President, you would think I’m the “leader” of the Board of Directors, but we really all work as a team to ensure everything gets done. (Teamwork makes the dream work!) The only reason I’m the President is that I work from home, so I’m physically in the neighborhood the most if something needs to get taken care of. We try to make sure that The Oaks looks and feels good to everyone and prepare for the neighborhood to stay looking and feeling good for years to come.

Team playing like this is exactly what a lot of us had hoped to see with the board. Of course even though Cullen is here to take care of all of the neighborhood needs, he was happy to share some of his “passion projects” that he would love to see come to fruition.

Sunshades covering the near side of the pool so that (1) we don’t have to keep paying to replace umbrellas, and (2) we have more shade to protect people from the hot summer sun, while still leaving the far side of the pool for all of the sunbathers! That’s something that’s close to my heart because of how much we utilize the pool, but if I really had that Infinity Stone power for The Oaks, I’d probably make it so that everyone had big enough driveways to fit all of their cars (and whatever else they have) without blocking sidewalks since that change would benefit a lot more people.

Cullen lives with his wife (and best friend) Jamie, and his three kids, Hampton (17), Colleen (7), and Tindal (6). While Cullen was born in New England, he has lived in the Summerville area since he was 7 years old. He did move back north to attend Providence College in Rhode Island, but after meeting Jamie (who was also a Charleston native) they ended up back in the Lowcountry.

In his professional life Cullen is a Product Success Manager for Doxy.me Inc., which is a website that enables healthcare providers to meet with patients via video in a way that’s simple, free, and secure. He’s also a member of the Product Marketing Alliance and have several professional certifications. He does leave time in his life for fun and games though!

I love spending as much time as possible with my family, whether that’s fishing in our pond, youth sports at the Y, or just sitting on the couch watching a movie. In the summer, you can usually find Jamie and the kids relaxing at the pool and me joining after I get done work. My favorite hobby and best stress relief is being outdoors in the sunshine doing work in the yard.

Cullen and his family have lived in the Oaks since June of 2018 and he has nothing but great things to say about our community.

We chose Cane Bay mainly because of it being its own little “bubble” and all the schools being right here. We really loved the small size of The Oaks and that the houses didn’t all look the same like in some other neighborhoods, so it looks like the neighborhood has some personality. What keeps us here are the wonderful families we have as neighbors and who really feel like an extension of our family.
