May Yard of the Month
Many of us in the neighborhood pride ourselves on the care we put into our houses and their presentation. Because of this the board has started The Oaks Yard of the Month program to feature some of the great work our neighbors have put into making our neighborhood the jewel of Cane Bay! This month we are pleased to announce that Clarissa and Glen at 302 Beachgrass are our yard of the month. We asked Clarissa where her passion for landscaping comes from.
My love for gardening started during my husbands military career , I wanted every house to feel like home! Not only did landscaping do that but it allowed me to be creative with maintaining and adding to the garden with minimal space.
It doesn’t take much looking to realize that there is a lot work and passion that has gone into it. So where does this passion stem from?
When I landscape I think of how I can add personal touches, not only for myself and my family to enjoy, but also for neighbors! I love interior decorating/designing and thought why not do outdoor designing as well!
To say that their landscaping is ‘intense’ or even ‘epic’ would probably be a description a lot of us could agree on. So where does one start when building a landscape of this scale?
I love every part of the yard and try to make every part of it stimulating to all five senses . Firstly, of course, being visual: from the edging, plants, , colors and textures! The fountain and hearing the running water… The different smells (both good and bad) such as the flowers, mulch, compost and fertilizer, and even coffee grounds add to the experience! The different plants with their textures, and even taste. I try to incorporate plants that you can taste as well! I have herbs and plants that are edible.
Everything is so well put together in front of there house that we were curious where the inspiration came from and Clarissa was happy to share that information with us:
My inspiration comes from all the places we’ve lived and visited but I do have to say that Mepkin Abbey is one of the biggest inspirations and every time I visit I get new ideas!!
So our congratulations to Clarissa and Glen (but mostly Clarissa as Glen readily admitted) for landing our first well-earned Yard of the Month!
