Thanks BCSO For Stopping by!
The board would like to extend a big thanks to Corporal Carli Drayton and Sheriff Duane Lewis for taking some time to join us at the amenities center and talk about neighborhood safety! We were able to cover a lot of areas of interest as well as answer plenty of questions about what we can all do to keep our neighborhood safe. Below is a recap of the meeting:
Community Action Team (CAT) – Corporal Drayton is the representative for Cane Bay/Nexton
This program was started to embed deputies into communities so they can get to know them and they have a better understanding of area and issues.
We’ve been having some issues with recent vehicle break-ins. Many of the vehicles have been unlocked and there have even been guns taken. So, please remember to lock your vehicle especially at night. Most break ins have been occurring between 1:00-5:00 a.m. Please report the break in even if nothing was taken and only touched or rummaged through as soon as you know. Don’t wait. This still helps them track activity and locations.
Corporal Drayton has started promoting the 9:00 p.m. routine to remind everyone to lock all doors, bring in valuables, turn on lights and activate security camera.
She suggested getting the app “Neighbors by Ring.” You don’t have to have a Ring system to use this app. She is able to send notifications and share information this way.
Dispatch – 843-719-4505
Use this number to report any suspicious activity, trouble with kids or noise, etc.
They have increased patrol in Cane Bay during certain hours. There are bike patrol teams as well as detectives in covert vehicles. They ask if you see them, don’t report their location on FB. This does not help in keeping them under cover.
Tips
9:00 p.m. routine
Lock gun in glove box and lock vehicle but it’s best not to leave in the car
Get to know your neighbors and look out for them
Look, listen and report – do not approach anyone
Crime watch program
Bonneau beach has created a strong program with 25 members. They don’t stop or approach anyone, just look out for each other’s homes and property. They will call dispatch when patrolling to report they are out and their vehicle information, so they don’t get reported as suspicious. They do not carry any fire arms. If they see something, they report what, where, and when. Remember “tipping ain’t snitching.”

Corporal Carli Drayton BSCO
Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office – share a lot of information that is important
They are currently dealing with the dirt bike bandit. If you see a blue dirt bike after today, please contact Corporal Drayton.
Traffic is #1 complaint – Speeding, running stop signs, reckless and aggressive driving. Highway patrol takes care of accidents, not BSCO. They can place a speeding monitor in the neighborhood at request. They do not recommend speed bumps because then the county will no long maintain the roads.
Solicitors – If there is someone persistent or that should not be around, contact Corporal Drayton.
Enforcing parking in the neighborhood – BCSO cannot do anything within Cane Bay because they are considered private roads. As long as a vehicle does not impede the follow of traffic, it cannot be ticketed or towed. However, the deputies can run a registration and talk to the owners. Corporal Drayton has no hesitation in doing this.
